Skyway Drive-In is one of the last Drive-In's in Wisconsin

We drove past the Skyway Drive-In a couple of times on our trip to Door County. It wasn't until Saturday morning that I saw the marque. A Saturday night double-feature. Starting at 6:45 Grease and at 8:45 Sixteen Candles. Now there's nothing like a late 70's or 80's flick that we don't like. The cheesier, the better. The bottom line. We had to go. We have these scratch off date night cards and our first one we scratched was to go to a drive-in theater. It was perfect. Up until that point, Tanya had never been to a drive-in theater. The last time I had, was in the early 80's at the Sky View Drive-In in Detroit Lakes. Drive-In's are a rarity in 2025. The Skyway, has been showing films since 1950 in Door County making it a summer staple. The food is typical theater fare with reasonable prices. We picked up a sweatshirt, popcorn, a large soda and a pretzel for $51. (the sweatshirt was $34).

Grease is iconic. The 1978 musical rom-com staring Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta provides a look back to 1958. The soundtrack is one of the greatest of all time and the story is classic.

Here's what you need to know about Sixteen Candles. Anthony Michael Hall was me during my high school days and Tanya actually talks about that same fact when we talk about our high school days. I absolutely love this movie. The 1984 coming of age comedy took me right back to high school and the shenanigans that I pulled during that time. It made the perfect ending to our Saturday in Door County.
