The Northern Lights were on full display

Tanya and I drove home from work, both looking at the November sky, waiting. There was a sharp sense of disappointment as we thought we had missed it. A week earlier we saw the northern lights from our driveway. The green sky seemed to dance without a care in the world. I sat in awe just soaking in the enormity of it all. There are some things in this life that I can't explain. Yes, it's science and we'll get to that, but its bigger than that.

We had gotten a message that the reds and greens were out in full force. As we drove home, we didn't see anything. The decision was made to head to our field which boasts the highest point in clay county. We pointed the Buick North and waited.

We didn't wait too long before our disappointment became utter jubilation. Up until the week prior, I hadn't seen the northern lights. What we witnessed on Tuesday night was a spectacular show that had everyone talking...and posting on their social media pages. I can't explain the science behind how it works. Here is what I know. A powerful geomagnetic solar storm blasted this rock that spins around the sun. NOAA has a scale that measures how strong the energy is in the atmosphere. We hit G3 conditions during the storm and are predicted to hit G4 with a chance for higher levels possible as another disturbance is expected to arrive around midday on Wednesday. On NOAA's scale basically the powerful electromagnetic energy will waver between strong and severe in intensity. I just know we could be in for another show tonight which would be just fine for me. Tanya and I sat and admired the show, it proved once again that this world we live in is spectacular if we take a moment to soak it all in. It also proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that mother nature remains undefeated.
