Tanya's Travel Tips

I love a great adventure and as I've traveled through the years, I have picked up little tricks that truly work for me. Whether travel with my kids when they were younger or just a road trip, here are five tips that have been game changers for me. 1. I always bring plastic baggies with. They can be disposable or reusable and is really whatever one prefers. So many times, we would use them for left over pizza or other food items that can and will break open. We typically plan food strategically. Ordering pizza for dinner the night before makes a perfect "on the go" lunch the next day. The baggies can also be used for toiletries or anything really. They come in handy and don't take up much space at all. 2. I also like to bring old pill bottles with. While that may sound strange, here is my logic. If you're destination includes a beach, these little beauties work perfect for sand or shells for your return trip home. They also work to secure that rock collection that littles seem to be enamored with. 3. I know about how much I use product wise. I'll start to save empty shampoo, conditioners, deodorant, lotion, toothpaste, etc when I know I will be traveling. That way I can throw away all my empties on the trip to free up space and weight.
4. Have a rough plan but be flexible. It's so important to have an idea of what you want to see or do on trips, but I try to keep plans loose. Some of the best things I've seen and done on vacations came when we learned about something when we were actually there. You'll always have your bucket list of things you want to experience, but I have found that the moments that stick out most are the spontaneous ones. 5. Talking to locals is the best way to find out about hidden gems. There will always be the big landmark attractions but finding those little sometimes hidden gems is what truly make a place special. There is no better way than to walk into a gas station or local coffee shop and ask "what makes this place special and unique?" Whether you are travel local or in a far away land, I hope some of these help make your adventure the absolute greatest!
